The theme of this years Society of Publication Designers award show is “Bespoke”, so hand lettering was a natural choice for the art directors.
Sometimes letters aren’t enough for people, and they like ornamentation and filigree to make a piece compelling and cohesive. The technique I used to here to get everything to agree as a family was to maintain a rule of using only thin lines and dots. Hierarchy was achieved with doubling and tripling the lines with dots between. Thought it might not look like it at first glance, this is actually an exercise in restraint.
