July 5th marked 1 year in the font business. In my first year, I released four typefaces, and yesterday, I released my fifth.
I wanted to say thanks to everyone that has purchased one of my fonts. Last July, when I realized people were willing to give me money in exchange for the work that I was doing anyway, it became my goal to live off the font business. In April, eight months after selling my first typeface, I quit my job and have been a “professional” type designer since. That’s really cool.
Also, I want to thank Riley Cran, the founder of Lost Type. I wasn’t sure how to release my first font, but when I saw Lost Type, I knew that it was the perfect place. Riley has been nothing but a pleasure to work with, and keeps me involved with how things on the site are shaping up.
From here, I’m not sure what’s next. More typefaces for sure. More weird/ dumb projects. I’ll graduate in a year, at which point I’ll probably move out of San Francisco.
So again, to anyone who has bought one of my fonts, or even anyone that has used one well, THANKS.
